The basics

What is Lumyx?

Lumyx is the case intelligence platform that connects the dots and brings clarity to every case. You import the evidence a case already produced — device extractions, video, plate reader hits, GPS files, subpoena and warrant returns — and Lumyx puts every event on one clock and one map. From there you move through time, add the events that carry the story, and present the same view in court that you built the case in. Find the evidence, build the case, present the truth.

Who uses it?

Anyone working a criminal case. In law enforcement that means investigators, forensic examiners, crime analysts, and command staff. In a district attorney's office, inspectors and prosecutors. On the other side of the case, criminal defense attorneys use it to test alternate timelines and challenge assumptions, and civil attorneys to clarify incident paths and liability. The point is that all of them can work from the same case file instead of each rebuilding it.

How is this different from the tools we already have?

Every tool in this space is good at one type of evidence. None of them tell the whole story. The extraction lives in one, CDRs in another, video in a folder, reports in Word or PowerPoint. Each tool is deep and mostly readable by whoever works in it. Lumyx combines all of your evidence into one compelling case deliverable on a single case timeline.

Do I need to be a forensic examiner to use it?

No. Drag your files in and Lumyx identifies the format, parses it, and maps it. The forensic depth stays available one click under the surface for whoever needs it, rather than filling the screen by default. That is deliberate: the people a case ultimately has to convince — command staff, a DA, a jury — are rarely the people who ran the extraction.

Getting your evidence in

What file formats can I import?

Carrier CDR warrant returns, Cellebrite UFDR reader reports, Magnet AXIOM location exports, Berla vehicle KML, Flock ALPR CSV, and Toyota warrant returns all have dedicated parsers. The accepted extensions are UFDR, KML, KMZ, CSV, XLSX, XLS, TXT, and ZIP archives containing any of those, and anything else carrying latitude, longitude, and a timestamp maps through the generic spreadsheet and KML readers. Evidence with no location data at all still belongs on the timeline: drag in images or video of the item — a scene photo, a surveillance clip, a screenshot of a text thread — and attach it to the event it belongs to.

Can I import phone extractions?

Yes. Cellebrite UFDR reader reports are the best-supported path and carry the most detail. Magnet AXIOM location exports have a dedicated parser. Extractions from other tools generally come in through their CSV, Excel, or KML exports. Worth knowing: files are parsed locally in your browser and only location data is uploaded, so the extraction itself never leaves your machine.

What about video, plate readers, vehicles, and drones?

All of them belong on the timeline. Flock ALPR exports and Berla vehicle KML have dedicated parsers; drone logs, telematics, and other GPS sources usually arrive as CSV, Excel, or KML and map through the generic readers. Video and photos attach directly to events as media, so a clip sits at the moment it belongs to. Watch camera clocks — they drift, and they are often set to the wrong zone entirely.

What happens when I get a format you've never seen?

Send it to us. Evidence formats change without notice and new report types appear constantly, so this is routine work rather than an exception. Generic spreadsheet parsing will usually get a file onto the map if it has coordinates and timestamps, but a dedicated parser is what preserves the full record detail. Turnaround depends on how complex the format is.

Building the case

How do you handle time zones across sources?

Every event is normalized to one clock, and you set the case's time zone explicitly. This matters more than it sounds. Sources report in different zones — some UTC, some local, occasionally mixed inside a single file — and cameras drift. Ordering is the entire value of a timeline, so an hour's error is both a cross-examination target and a real risk of reading the sequence wrong.

Can I put things on the timeline that have no location?

Yes. A witness statement, a lab result, an interview, a call with no location data — anything that happened at a time but not at a mappable place — can be added as an event that appears on the timeline and is left off the map entirely. Most of what decides a case is not location data, and a timeline that only holds coordinates is not the case.

Can I compare two phones, or a phone and a vehicle?

Yes. Each subject becomes its own path with its own color — one device, one vehicle, one source of location data — and a case can hold several at once on the same map and the same clock. That is usually where a case turns: not what one subject did, but where two tracks converge, and when.

Can I attach exhibits and media to events?

Yes. An event holds a title, a time, usually a place, and whatever media, notes, or exhibit numbers you attach to it. Tagging each event with its trial exhibit number is a habit worth forming — it lets testimony given weeks apart be recalled in order, which is how the Whatcom County Prosecutor's Office worked through a six-week homicide trial.

Cell records

Which carriers' call detail records do you support?

AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, across roughly thirty distinct report formats — voice, SMS, data sessions, timing advance, precision location, and the cell site lists that go with them. CDR support is currently in early access while we refine it with agency partners ahead of full release. If your case is on another carrier, tell us what you received. That is how the list grows.

Why do you draw cell sectors as wedges instead of pins?

Because a pin claims precision the record does not have. A cell record tells you which antenna face carried the transaction, not where the phone was. Lumyx draws the sector from the azimuth and beamwidth in the carrier's own tower list — the direction the antenna points and the arc it covers. Note that reported beamwidth is measured at the half-power points, so actual coverage extends past the drawn edge.

What is a timing advance arc, and why does it matter?

Timing advance is the correction a cell site sends a device so its transmissions arrive in the right time slot. Because the correction scales with distance, the value maps to a band at some range from the site — roughly 78 meters wide on LTE, about 550 on 2G. Lumyx draws that band as an arc inside the serving sector, which narrows a broad wedge considerably. It remains a distance band, not a fix: the device could be anywhere along it.

In the courtroom

Is Lumyx admissible in court?

Admissibility is a ruling a judge makes about a specific exhibit offered by a specific witness in a specific case. It is not a property any software has, and any vendor claiming otherwise is worth a second look. What we can tell you is what Lumyx does to make your foundation easier to lay: every event traces back to the source record and field it came from, timestamps carry one documented time zone, and anything drawn from carrier data comes from the carrier's own figures.

Can I present live from Lumyx in the courtroom?

Yes, and attorneys do. You drive the map and timeline in front of the jury instead of clicking through slides. Per-event settings let you pin the exact map view, time range, and playback speed each moment should open at, so nothing has to be hunted for live. Screen recording captures the session to an MP4 as you go, which gives your office a record of what the jury actually saw.

If an exhibit gets challenged, can I show where it came from?

Yes. Every mapped point and event stays linked to the record that produced it, so you can open any item and show the underlying row — the source file, the fields, the timestamp and its zone. That traceability is the point, and it cuts both ways: it is equally what lets a defense attorney test whether a mapped conclusion is actually supported by the record beneath it.

Does this replace an expert witness?

No, and treat any tool that suggests it does with suspicion. Courts increasingly hold that interpreting cell site data — how a network selects a serving sector, what a sequence of towers implies about movement — is expert testimony rather than something a lay witness may offer, and the trend is toward more rigor rather than less. Lumyx helps you show what the records say. Explaining what they mean is still a qualified witness's job.

Deployment, security, and cost

What happens to our case data?

Evidence files are parsed locally in your browser and only location data is uploaded, so the extraction, the video, and the full return stay on your machine. Cases are visible to your organization only. US Cloud hosts in the United States; International Cloud offers regional hosting where data has to stay in a particular jurisdiction. If your agency or firm has specific security or compliance requirements, bring them to a call and we will work through them with you.

Can we run Lumyx offline or on-premises?

Not yet. An on-premises deployment where case data never leaves your own machine is designed and priced, but it has not shipped — the pricing page lists it as Coming Soon, and we would rather say that plainly than have you plan a procurement around it. If offline is a hard requirement for you, tell us. It moves the roadmap.

What does it cost?

US Cloud starts at $6,000 a year for three users, with the per-user price dropping at six and ten seats. International Cloud starts at $22,500 for ten users. Every plan includes every feature, unlimited cases, and unlimited media uploads, with no per-case fees — which matters, because per-case pricing quietly discourages using the tool on the cases that need it most. Larger teams get custom pricing.

How do I try it?

Most people build their first case in an afternoon.
